Sensitivity Strikes (Book #1 in the Sensitivity Girl fiction series)

16-year-old film photography enthusiast and part-time cater waiter Julianne can't seem to find her place in her early 1990's suburban world. Her profound emotional sensitivity, a penchant for over-analysis, a default setting of mistrust, and inoperable sarcasm result in simultaneous under and over qualification for all adolescent posse's, cliques, and tribes. Until a freak accident at pretentious cocktail party strikes something in her. Something powerful. Julianne is struck with the ability to see deep within the souls of those around her and understand their character and feelings. She also acquires the power to kick some serious ass. A cache of idiosyncratic friends and relatives, and several bizarre circumstances force Julianne to transform from reluctant, shoegazing mutant, to teenage superhero. A vintage camera her weapon, battered combat boots her transportation, and sensitivity her ultimate power.

Sensitivity Mom
Raising kids is hard. Like, super hard. Intense manual labor, erratic schedule, mental dexterity, emotionally taxing types of hard.
This project is about taking some of the hard away. The overarching premise is this: the majority of parents love their children. It is time to stop the judgements. Both outward and inward. This project is designed around parents giving themselves and each other a chance to trust their instincts, and parent the way they feel is best for their kids. Some will choose attachment parenting, some will choose homeschooling, some will choose free-range parenting, and it is all okay.
The book will begin with parents taking a long hard look at themselves, their partners, and their families. Acknowledging the good and the bad, the strengths and the weaknesses. Next, parents will be encouraged to, on a consistent basis, take a good hard look at their child. The positives, the negatives, and most importantly: what works for their child and what does not. This applies to every child in the house individually. The point of such in-depth review is to design a family dynamic that works for the strengths and weaknesses of every member.
At the end of the book will be stories from real parents of many types. Stories about times when trusting their instincts and knowing their kids brought on success. There will also a few stories of flops. Mistakes parents have made and would like to share with others.
By knowing our children and ourselves better we can feel more confident in the choices we make. It will also allow us to be less judgmental of the choices that others make. What works for your child may not work for mine and that is okay. Different is not wrong. What is wrong is making a difficult job, parenting, harder than it needs to be.
